Recover Deleted PNG Files from XD Picture Card

PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics is a lossless bitmap image format that is popular on the World Wide Web and elsewhere. PNG was mainly developed to deal with some of the shortcomings of the GIF format and allows storage of images with greater color depth and other important features. PNG uses a lossless data compression technique known as deflation. So PNG files can achieve greater compression than GIF, but some implementations make poor choices of filter technique and therefore produce unnecessarily large PNG files. PNG file format allows three different styles of transparency i.e., one for indexed color images and two for greyscale or truecolor images. Image attributes that are stored in PNG file format include gamma values, background color, and textual information. The standard allows up to 16 bits per channel, though for most of us, 8 bits per channel is generally enough. These PNG files can be stored in different types of MMC cards like SD, XD, and CF cards etc. There are instances when PNG files stored in XD card gets corrupted, lost or deleted due to some reasons. So in order to recover deleted PNG files from XD picture card you need to use relevant memory card recovery software.

Common scenarios leading to deletion of PNG files from XD card are highlighted below:

  • Virus attacks: Viruses are the most common reason for corrupting pictures stored on XD cards. It makes the pictures stored in it inaccessible. Performing Anti Virus scan on XD card can also be a reason of PNG file loss because some critical files may get deleted from the XD card when it is scanned.
  • Accidentally formatting the XD card: Formatting is a process of setting up a new file system by erasing the existing content. When you format a memory card, it rebuilds the new file system by erasing the existing contents. So, you may not be able to access the data because, the allocation information of that data is deleted.
  •  Unintentional deletion of files from XD cards: While previewing photos from a digital camera if you press format option then it will erase complete data present on digital camera, which may result in file loss. But, it’s not a permanent loss.
  • Improper Usage: Improper usage of XD card like pulling it out forcefully while data transfer is going on can corrupt the pictures and other files stored in it and hence make them inaccessible.

No matter what may be the reason for PNG file loss from XD cards, you can always restore deleted image files from memory cards by using the best memory card pictures recovery software as the actual contents are still present on the memory card until new data overwrites the free space. So, to prevent corruption of XD card use proper methods to format memory card. To retrieve lost or deleted PNG files, do not save any new data over affected memory cards. Use read-only recovery software to avoid permanent data loss from XD cards.

Memory card recovery software recovers lost images PNG files using special inbuilt algorithms. Along with pictures, this software can also recover deleted audio and video files from memory cards. If you have accidentally formatted your memory card then you can use this software to recover the data. This software is also capable of recovering and restoring digital RAW photos from all popular brands of digital cameras like Olympus, Fujifilm, Nikon, Sony, Canon etc. This software supports different types of memory cards like SD, CF, MMC and XD memory cards. After recovery, you can save your recovered files into any accessible drives of Windows like CD or DVD. You can download the trial version of this software and evaluate the recovery results.

Follow the steps given below to restore PNG files from XD card:

Step 1: Remove the affected XD card and connect it as a slave to the healthy computer. Download and install the memory card recovery software on the system to which, the affected memory card is connected. Run the program by double-clicking the shortcut icon on the desktop. >From the main screen that is displayed, select “Recover Deleted Photos” option to recover photos that have been deleted as shown in Figure 1 and proceed.
